Children need playgrounds in order to learn and grow, but like many students in the Philadelphia School District, the students at GW Childs do not have access to one on school grounds.
The enclosed rooftop space at GW Childs provides an opportunity to create a unique, safe, and dedicated play space for the Pre-K through Third Grade students. We envision a playground designed to encourage creativity, build community through cooperative play, and promote healthy physical activity. (Have questions? Visit our FAQ page.)
Studio Ludo is in the process of designing a dream playground for the students at Childs based on input from the school community. We have received a grant of $100,000 from the Neighborhood Transformation Initiative, through the advocacy of Councilman Kenyatta Johnson. We have also raised over $22,000 from the community. In order to build the playground, we need to raise an additional $196,650. Join us in reaching our goal to break ground by the end of the school year so we can give the students at Childs the playground that they deserve.
We invite you to make a one-time or monthly reoccurring gift to NICE so that the children of Point Breeze have more opportunities to play. With your help, we can build a state-of-the-art playground that hundreds of students will enjoy for years to come.
“The Childs School Community places great importance on the physical health of our young people. We want to keep kids safe and happy at recess with organized play on equipment on our roof. We hope to create a magical place for our children to play each day; a place where they can climb, jump, stretch, and use their wonderful imaginations. We encourage the greater community to join us in making this wonderful project come true.”
