The S.T.A.R. Project
Supporting Theater & Auditorium Revitalization
In January of 2021, N.I.C.E announced Phase II of our Auditorium Revitalization Project to refurbish and revitalize the historic auditorium at GW Childs Elementary School and bring a state of the art performance & programming space to the school & community.
Phase I, completed in 2016, replaced the projector, projector screen, and repaired broken seating throughout the auditorium. In Phase II, we will be working with the NICE and GW Childs community to bring a new sound system and lighting to the auditorium. This project will continue to enhance this space and unlock the potential of this space for student engagement, performance, and learning.
We invite you to join us at A N.I.C.E Night 2021 or make a one-time or monthly reoccurring gift via the link below to NICE to bring a state of the art performance & programming space to the students of GW Childs Elementary School and the Point Breeze community.
"We have students across our K to 8 grade span that have found an outlet in our Arts programs. A road to expression they might not have dreamed possible sitting in their classrooms. To be able to expand on the production quality of the music, dance, plays, costume design and stage setting as seen by our audiences will be incredible. The problem has always been for the audience to see and hear our shining stars properly. New lighting and improved sound quality will go a long way in showing both students and families that the GW Childs School is committed to providing the best all around learning and growing environment possible for all stakeholders in our community."

"What Is Your Life's Blueprint?"
Did you know that on October 26, 1967, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke in the GW Childs Auditorium? On that date, he gave a speech titled "What Is Your Life’s Blueprint?" to the students of Barratt Junior High School which previously occupied the building that is now GW Childs Elementary School.
